Might be too late for the most of you but i managed to install kolab on an
ubuntu 14.04 server.

First problem is, roundcubemail doesn't install the mysql-database at all.
As a workaround I installed the roundcube package from the ubuntu repository
with

# apt-get install roundcube

after that, i renamed the database 'roundcube' to 'roundcubemail' with
phpmyadmin.
Then i had to set the right privileges for the user roundcube in mysql:

# mysql -u root -p
> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON roundcubemail.* TO roundcube at localhost IDENTIFIED BY 'yourpassword';
> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
> quit

then removed roundcube (and the roundcube directory) with leaving the database
untouched:

# apt-get remove roundcube roundcube-core roundcube-mysql
# rm -rf /etc/roundcubemail/

Next step is to try a installation with

# aptitude install kolab

It fails, because kolab puts all website-files in
'/etc/apache2/sites-available' instead of '/etc/apache2/sites-enabled'. So you
have to copy or move these files by hand:

# cd /etc/apache2/sites-available/
# cp roundcubemail kolab-webadmin /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/
# aptitude install kolab

On the 2nd try, kolab creates new sites, which you have to copy/move again:

# cp kolab-freebusy kolab-syncroton chwala /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/
# aptitude install kolab

... and again:

# cp iRony /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/
# service apache2 restart
# aptitude install kolab

Now the installation works and you can setup kolab with

# setup-kolab

which worked for me without bigger problems. Last issue: The webinterfaces were
unreachable at that time. Fix: We have to move or copy the files in
*/etc/apache2/sites-enabled' to *.conf files so apache accepts them:

# cd /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/
# cp chwala chwala.conf
# cp iRony iRony.conf
# cp kolab-freebusy kolab-freebusy.conf
# cp kolab-syncroton kolab-syncroton.conf
# cp kolab-webadmin kolab-webadmin.conf
# cp roundcubemail roundcubemail.conf
# service apache2 restart

... and all should work just fine.
