            Bug ID: 4837
Summary: Wish: support for splitting the installation
    Classification: Kolab Server
           Product: Kolab Server
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Debian Wheezy
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: minor
          Priority: P3
         Component: packaging
          Assignee: packaging-bugs at lists.kolabsys.com
          Reporter: linuxmail at 4lin.net
       Ticket Type: ---

today I tried to split the Kolab 3.4 installation into several parts. One for
web and one for the rest. I dislike the idea to have the same daemon on more
than one host. Actually, it is nearly impossible to install only the required
parts for example only the Web related things on the Web host, the mail parts
on the MX/IMAP hosts ... etc. ..

One example:

The setup-kolab tool is in the package kolab-conf. kolab-conf requires Apache2,
389-ds and a lot of other things, that you don't need on every host.

It would be nice, if most package dependencies are OPTIONAL and not required

I created also a Wish/Bug (id=4836) entry for supporting TCP on services like
MySQL, because you have a MySQL/MariaDB cluster, the same for LDAP.

Maybe an idea is to make use of SSH for remote configuration services like
Postfix, Dovecot or Cyrus.

In my case I giving it up, because it wasn't possible without a lot of
workarounds and hacks.
